When calculating spoke length for a rim that uses internal spoke nipples, you’ll need to add a specific length to the result you get from a spoke calculator. This additional length accounts for the nipple sitting inside the rim.

A general guideline is to add the length of the spoke nipple -2mm to the calculated spoke length. For example, if you’re using 12mm internal nipples, you would add 10mm to the length the spoke calculator provides based on the rim’s ERD, the lacing pattern being used and your hub measurements.
