WARNING: These are high-pressure systems. Always release both air spring pressure and damper pressure before opening the shock. Serious injury is possible if pressurized components are disassembled. These kits are intended for experienced home mechanics only.
Open all adjusters before bleeding. Follow official RockShox service manuals when in doubt.
Here is a good Aftermarket Seal kit that you can get from mtb-hydraulics, it’s really cheap and updated.
To re-pressurize the damper, you’ll need a RockShox IFP air valve adapter,a must-have if you’re using a standard shock pump.
Buy the adapter on Amazon
Do not forget to get yourself a schrader valve core tool!
RockShox recommends torquing their shock sealheads to ~3034 Nm, but thats arguably way too high.
Fox only uses 16 Nm on their sealheads and they work perfectly. Why? Because:
In this video at 20:15, even the pro doesnt torque to 34 Nm, because youd need over 50 pounds (22+ kg) of force on the wrench tip. Thats excessive.
We suggest staying around 2025 Nm. Thats already more than Fox uses and more than enough to fully seal a fine-pitch thread with an O-ring.
Use our Torque Calculator to figure out the right pull for your wrench length.
Overtightening isnt better. Its just more likely to break something.
This Vivid model is basically a downhill-tuned version of the 2023+ Super Deluxe, same core layout, but built tougher.
No pin wrench is needed : you need 10″ Knipex pliers to open the sealhead.
Note on Compatibility: If your RockShox shock is labeled with“Counter-Measure”, you must use the Negative Spring Compression Tool to safely compress the internal spring during reassembly.
Weve added a custom 3D-printed adapter that clips onto the negative spring compression tool and lets you use Knipex 10″ pliers. Works best with the jaws almost parallel.
Included free with every tool, no need to buy anything else. Just make sure you have Knipex!
Use a proper M5 brake bleed fitting to fill through the bleed port. If you’re not using the compression tool, adjust your IFP depth using the formula below:
Adjusted IFP Depth = Base IFP Depth [(6.35 Shaft Lost) / (Reservoir Radius)]
Example:
Base Depth = 35 mm
Shaft Lost = 10 mm
Reservoir Inner Diameter = 24 mm Radius = 12 mm
Adjusted Depth 32.25 mm
Only use this equation if you’re using a bleed fitting and syringe. Otherwise, just use the base depth with the compression tool.
All tools are designed for home use only. Read our Terms of Service before purchase.
